Action For Development
AFD evolved from the FAO-operated Freedom from Hunger Campaign/Action for Development (FFHC/AD), which was implementing a programme of integrated rural development in selected drought prone areas in the Southern part of Ethiopia for over a decade. It was constituted as a national NGO in 1997, in consideration of the need to build upon the achievements of FFHC/AD and enhancing its impact, while promoting opportunities for the improvement of grassroots livelihoods.
Vision
AFD envisions empowered, resilient, and thriving Ethiopian citizens leading a dignified life in an enabling and sustainable environment.
At AFD, we are a dynamic organization dedicated to the empowerment of pastoralists, agro-pastoralists, and other vulnerable communities across rural and semi-urban Ethiopia. Through strong partnerships with local communities and development actors, we enhance self-development initiatives by implementing principled humanitarian actions and integrated programs that foster climate-resilient livelihoods, WASH & other basic services, and citizen responsive governance. In these initiatives, we integrate such imperatives as gender equality, climate action, youth empowerment, capacity development, and continuous learning, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive in an inclusive and equitable environment.
