The supreme governing body of AFD is its General Assembly comprise of 20 members. Strategic guidance and operational oversight is provided by a Board of Directors comprising of 7 persons. Day to day activities are carried out by a Secretariate with headquarter in Addis Ababa and four Field Coordination Offices. Main operational departments of the secretariate include Program Department, MEAL Service, Humanitarian Department, Finance Department, as well as HR & Administration Department. Currently, AFD operates with a staff size of 96.
