Is Action For Development (AFD) a local or international organization?

Action For Development (AFD) is a local, non-governmental organization (NGO). Established in Ethiopia in 1997, we are a non-profit, non-partisan, and secular organization dedicated to serving pastoral, agro-pastoral, & other grassroots communities.

While we maintain strong partnerships with international donors and global development agencies, our leadership, registration, and grassroots operations are entirely local. This allows us to maintain a deep understanding of the cultural and socio-economic context of the regions where we work.

What are the major thematic areas of interventions of AFD?

The AFD program primarily intended to empower pastoralist, agro-pastoralist & other deprived communities in Ethiopia through sustainable development initiatives, focusing on, Climate resilient livelihoods, WASH & Other basic services, Humanitarian response and Citizen responsive governance.

Where do AFD operate?

We primarily operate in hard-to-reach peripheral areas of the country  such as Borana & Bale of the Oromia region, and  the Ari & South Omo Zones of the Southern Ethiopia Region, where we implement long-term development projects and emergency responses.
